Shawn Kennedy, DVM, Diplomate, ACVS-SA, is a Veterinary Surgeon at MedVet Columbus where he has been part of the medical team since 2004. Dr. Kennedy attended The Ohio State University College of Veterinary Medicine where he earned a Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree. Following his graduation from veterinary school, Dr. Kennedy completed a yearlong internship in small animal medicine and surgery, as well as a three-year residency in small animal surgery at the University of Illinois.
Since becoming a board-certified Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Surgeons, Dr. Shawn Kennedy has become a leader and well-known figure in the Columbus veterinary community. His research interests include biomechanics and cranial cruciate ligament rupture. He was awarded the Hohn-Johnson Research Grant and the Illinois Governor’s Venture Tech for his clinical research work. He is currently studying the clinical outcome of cats with pulmonary (lung) tumors. He is the author and co-author of several publications in a variety of veterinary journals, including the Journal of the American Animal Hospital Association and Veterinary and Comparative Orthopaedics and Traumatology. He is also an active advocate of continued education for veterinary professionals and has lectured on various surgical topics in. He is the 2018 President of the Columbus Academy of Veterinary Medicine.
Although Dr. Kennedy is experienced in all aspects of surgery, he has particular interests in oncologic, neurologic, and orthopedic surgery. Dr. Kennedy is experienced in arthroscopy, laparoscopy, thoracoscopy, and interventional procedures.
